Casting is a form. Forging is slow forming. Using forging machinery to exert pressure on the metal blank, extrusion, hammering and other methods, so that the metal material in the plastic state becomes a processing method with a certain shape and size of the workpiece. Forging is a plastic forming under the solid state, there are hot processing, cold processing points, such as extrusion, drawing, upsetting, punching and so on are forging.

Forging can eliminate the metal in the smelting process of the as-cast loose and other defects through forging, optimize the microstructure, while due to the preservation of the complete metal flow line, the mechanical properties of the forging is generally better than the casting of the same material. For important parts with high load and severe working conditions in related machinery, forgings are mostly used in addition to plates, profiles or welding parts with simple shapes that can be rolled.
Casting Advantage
1.It can produce parts with complex shapes, especially blanks with complex inner cavities.
2. Wide adaptability, industrial commonly used metal materials can be cast, a few grams to several hundred tons.
3. Wide source of raw materials, low price, such as scrap steel, scrap parts, chips, etc.
4. The shape and size of the casting are very close to the parts, which reduces the cutting amount and belongs to non-cutting processing.
5. Widely used, 40%~70% of agricultural machinery, 70%~80% of the weight of machine tools are castings.
4. Different disadvantages
Forging disadvantages:
In forging production, easy to occur trauma accidents.
Casting shortcomings:
1. Mechanical properties are not as good as forgings, such as thick organization, defects and so on.
2. Sand casting, single piece, small batch production, workers labor intensity.
3. The casting quality is unstable, the process is many, the influencing factors are complex, and it is easy to produce many defects.
